It was when I myself, contemplated changing profession, that I realized I needed life-coaching, and became inspired through the Oprah show to become one. I had come up with a business idea 1999 to offer various holistic treatments, as well as more traditional therapeutic ones, under one roof, where I would be the coordinator and help people find what they need to heal. I soon embarked on a new education, that was interdisciplinary in my then hometown of Malmö, in Sweden. I studied Workscience and adjoining courses for 5 years, such as Human Resource Management, Entrepreneurship, and Organizational Development. I concentrated all my exam papers on coaching - the tools, the profession and its place in society. This in turn, led to a new course in 2004, within conversation techniques to be formed with a concentration on coaching and mentoring, that I also attended and passed with honors. And then coached actual clients.
Alongside my final exam paper on the Master degree level 2003, I also developed a plan to build a career center for Malmö university. I had visited Columbia University in New York City, as well as done interviews, and thought out a plan to implement something similar for students on their way out into the workplace. I attached this to my paper on The Socratic Dialogue. The manager of guidance counsellors, however, decided to use coaching as a promotion for the already existing academic advisors, wherefore it never became developed there, the way I had wished for.
In 2005, the Swedish government adopted the whole plan and decided to offer Job coaching on all state job agencies nationally. While this sounded awesome, I was never hired, nor asked for permission, paid, or thanked.
