Making room for work

Updated: Nov 7, 2022

If you ever have studied hard before an exam, you probably have felt some pressure the last days before, which in fact helped you. Sometimes a deadline can do this for us, so then set a deadline. Other times, when we perform a task regularly, procrastination can show itself by remembering little things that needs to be done too, or we feel inclined to look up something else, or just browse the news instead of getting to it. So, it is for me.

What I have realised works best for me, is to actually tend to all those little things that beckon for my attention first. By tending to chores, making the phone calls, printing out the applications or reading up on something I've felt the need to, enables me to put that all aside, so that I ONLY have my actual work assignment left. By freeing up both my mental space as well as my physical, I can concentrate better and focus solemnly on my work. The rest, I write down on a to do-list or book into my planner. The result then becomes a more distinct and correct job done, as well as a greater sense of accomplishment at the end of my day.

How do you plan and make room for your work?
