The Hawaiian values

In Hawaii there are a couple of sayings that share their cultural values:

'Imi na'auao = to seek wisdom

Malama = to care for and protect

'Ike pono = to know and do what is right

Kuleana = to take responsibility

Ho'omau = to preserve and perpetuate

Ha'aha'a = to be humble

These together means to have compassion and empathy, which extends into the Aloha-spirit. The Aloha-spirit is the coordination of mind and heart within each person. It brings each person to the self. Each person must think and emote good feelings to others. It means mutual regard and affection and extends warmth in caring with no obligation in return.

This is in the Hawaii state law, revised statues 5-7.5 - be nice!
